Is My Child Ready For This Activity?

Your child is ready when they can recognize common objects (animals, fruits) and are starting to learn letters. This builds on Find and Tap activities.

Levels & Progress

This activity has 5 levels that increase the number of letter choices:

Level Letter Options Example
1 2 letters "Does 🍌 Banana start with B or L?"
2 3 letters Three letter options
3 4 letters "Does 🐰 Rabbit start with D, E, R, or P?"
4 5 letters Five letter options
5 6 letters Six letter options

Gameplay Experience

  1. See the Image: A large emoji image appears (e.g., 🍎 Apple, 🐶 Dog)
  2. Hear the Prompt: Jane says the phonetic sound twice, then the word (e.g., "D... D... Dog")
  3. Choose the Letter: Tap the letter card that the word starts with
  4. Celebrate or Retry:
    • Correct: Confetti! Jane confirms "D for Dog"
    • Incorrect: Gentle buzz—try again!
  5. Auto-advance: After success, moves to the next image

Tip: Tap on the header to hear the prompt again.

Learning Objectives

  • Phonics: Connecting letter sounds with beginning sounds of words
  • Letter Recognition: Identifying letters visually
  • Vocabulary: Learning animal and fruit names
  • Auditory Processing: Matching spoken sounds to written letters
  • Focus: Selecting from multiple options

Progress Tracking

Each activity session is tracked with:

  • The image shown
  • The correct starting letter
  • All letter options presented
  • The answer your child selected
  • Whether they got it correct
  • Number of attempts

Sound On?

Essential! This activity relies heavily on audio:

  • Phonetic sounds repeated twice for emphasis
  • Word pronunciation to help children make the connection
  • Success confirmation ("B for Banana")

The phonetic component is critical for learning initial sounds.
